Once again I welcome Tony Endelman back into the studio to chat about his new book "I Hope There's Pie." It's been getting rave reviews and is a series of essays drawn from Tony's life experiences. Some funny, some uncomfortable, some downright embarrassing, but all very entertaining. Check out his website and order this book. It was a cold and icy night when two members of the Omaha band So So Sailors stopped by the studio for an interview. I gave them whiskey and beer. I brandished a vodka rocks and we settled in for an interview. That's the story anyway. Chris and Brendan have currently been promoting the release of their new EP "Young Hearts" and I imagine the interview with the Omaha World Herald wasn't half as fun or interesting as this one. Let's just say there was a bit of editing done to eliminate some off topic convos, (Hint: listen after the end credits to hear some...), but even so, this episode is a bit long as we showcase three songs off of the EP. Opening song: "New Tattoo" by Brad Hoshaw - Check out his new record on Bandcamp HERE Chris Machmulller:Piano/Guitar/Saxophone/Vocals Bio The So-So Sailors are five sun-burnt stowaways left adrift upon the high seas. Eagerly awaiting land, they dream of a pristine beach where they can sip coconut milk and shoot pistols without fear of criminal prosecution or possible complaints by the neighbors. Nah, screw that (the coconut part anyway)! It's just Chris Machmuller (Ladyfinger), Dan McCarthy (McCarthy Trenching), Alex McManus (The Bruces, Lambchop), Brendan Walsh and Dan Kemp (Bloodcow). |

Well this was a fun episode. Here's the story. We set up with Arrah and the Ferns in the studio to have a cool stripped down in-studio peformance and got 3 great songs. Then the computer crashed. Then it crashed again. After loosing all the performances and most of the interview, we were 2 hours and a few beers in. So we went old school and recorded the interview on my iPhone and pulled down songs from their EP. It is still a great interview and you will love the songs. Thanks to the band for hanging in there and being great sports. Opening song: "Last Time" by Once A Pawn |

So for the first time, I totally forgot I had a troupe of comedy yahoos coming over for a podcast. After I was a good 2 martinis in, I had message on facebook that stated simply "I think we are here." Holy shit! Well, it worked out just fine and I am pleased to have had 3/4 of the OK Party Comedy troupe in the studio for some beers, laughs, and random banter. Let's just say I had a lot of editing to do, mainly just because I tend to ramble on after a couple of martinis, and boy do I think I'm funny... Enjoy. From their facebook info: OK Party is an Omaha, Nebraska based sketch comedy group that performs monthly comedy events at The Waiting Room Lounge and The Slowdown. They also make sketch comedy videos and pie. They have performed with Doug Benson, Tig Notaro, Howard Kremer, Kyle Kinane, and others. They are very polite and mundane. In this episode, we are joined by South of Lincoln AKA Max Holmquist. We talk about his experience as a singer/songwriter hailing from a small town in Nebraska, and get a couple of great in studio performances. The cicadas even chime in... South of Lincoln is the stage name for Maxwell Beardsley H. and his one man folk show. The calm, boring life of a small Midwestern town drove him to pick up a guitar at the age of 15. Four years later, South of Lincoln started in 2006 as Max Holmquist’s solo project. Starting with a post-punk/emo sound in the vein as Dashboard Confessionals, etc. somewhere along the line his style shifted with his musical tastes. With the introduction of Alt/Folk from people like Damien Jurado, Neko Case, M. Ward, Andrew Bird, Rocky Votolato, etc., South of Lincoln made the shift towards Folksy storytelling.
