In this episode Whipkey 3 frontman Matt Whipkey joins me in the Worlds of Wayne Tiki Bar for a chat about his upcoming project Penny Park Omaha NE 1989. A double album he is funding through Kickstarter. We talk about the concept, writing, producing and funding of this ambitious record.
From the site:
With the 1990's at their doorstep and young adult emotions running hot, one young woman, Penny Park, will not get out of their head. The teenagers of Omaha, NE are fighting, bleeding, screaming, begging to tell you all about her. With over two albums of music covering many genres, Penny Park: Omaha, NE: Summer 1989 transports the listener to a time when your only concern was summer, summer, summer. What history dealt those Cass St. gates is readily documented. How the romance ends for these young men and Penny is anyone's guess and everyone's story.

Kronch and I have known each other for many years. He was filming and interviewing live bands here in Omaha since before most of you videoheads were in high school. Podcasting was a fantasy. Love Drunk was a but a far off dream of a young Django. When you wanted to Hearnebraska, you had to either be there or tune in. Back in the 90's it was quite the chore to showcase music on television and computers were still not ready for mass video consumption. Yet somehow, Kronch and a band of misfit tech-heads made a show that chronicled a bit of Omaha music history. We chat about it and reminisce on old times.
The weekly hour long TV show featuring performances of local, regional and national alternative rock, reggae and blues acts taped live on location. Trout Tunes aired from 1991 to 1999 in Omaha, Lincoln and Wichita.

In this episode of Worlds of Wayne I am joined once again by the Color Pharmacy. On their way to SXSW they spent 2 days in Omaha and hung out at the house. So we set up the laptop, the handy Blue Snowball mic, and had a lunchtime chat.

After relentless touring in support of their last full-length record, The Color Pharmacy are back with an explosive new album, to be released March 2013. Building on the sound and success of Texatonka (released February 2011 and added at #2 on the CMJ Radio 200 charts) the Minneapolis-based trio tracked The Color Pharmacy over only four days at The Pearl Studios with producer Mark Schwandt (White Light Riot, Usonia). Recorded to analog tape, the new album boasts tightly-crafted songs, catchy hooks, and soaring vocal harmonies to create a sonic atmosphere entirely unique to this genre-bending band.
